cPanel vs Enhance: Which Control Panel?
GoZen Host offers both cPanel and Enhance. Here’s what each does well and which one to pick.
GoZen Host offers two control panels: the industry-standard cPanel and the modern Enhance. They solve the same problem (managing your hosting) but with different approaches. Here’s how to decide.

The Core Difference
cPanel is the established standard. It’s been around since 1996. Every hosting tutorial on the internet assumes cPanel. It has an interface for everything, sometimes to a fault.
Enhance is a modern alternative built from scratch. It uses kernel-level isolation (cgroups and namespaces) instead of traditional user-based separation, gives you per-site web server choice, and has a cleaner interface. It doesn’t need a separate license per account.
Side-by-Side
| Feature | cPanel | Enhance |
|---|---|---|
| Interface | Feature-rich, can feel busy | Clean, modern, less clutter |
| Learning curve | Low (everyone knows it) | Low-medium (different layout) |
| Isolation | User-based (CloudLinux CageFS) | Kernel-level (cgroups + namespaces) |
| Web server options | LiteSpeed Enterprise (on GoZen) | Choose per site: OpenLiteSpeed, Nginx, Apache |
| PHP versions | Per-domain via MultiPHP | Per-site, independent |
| Built-in, Roundcube webmail | Built-in, modern webmail | |
| File manager | Built-in, functional | Built-in, modern |
| Database management | phpMyAdmin | phpMyAdmin |
| SSL | AutoSSL (Let’s Encrypt) | Automatic SSL (Let’s Encrypt) |
| Backups | JetBackup / Backuply add-ons | Built-in backup system |
| WordPress installer | Softaculous (one-click) | Built-in WordPress installer |
| SSH access | Terminal in cPanel or external SSH | Built-in terminal |
| DNS management | Zone Editor | Built-in DNS editor |
| Licensing | Per-account license (cost scales) | No per-account license |
| API | UAPI / WHM API | REST API |
When to Pick cPanel
Choose cPanel if:
- You already know cPanel. Muscle memory matters. If you’ve managed hosting for years on cPanel, switching has a relearning cost
- You need maximum plugin compatibility. Softaculous, cPGuard, JetBackup, LiteSpeed Cache management, WHMCS integration, all work out of the box
- You follow online tutorials. 95% of “how to do X on your hosting” articles assume cPanel
- Your clients expect it. If you’re a reseller and your clients have cPanel experience, they’ll be productive immediately
- You need CloudLinux features. Resource limits, CageFS isolation, PHP Selector - these are deep cPanel integrations
cPanel is available on GoZen shared hosting, WordPress hosting, and managed VPS plans.
When to Pick Enhance
Choose Enhance if:
- You want per-site web server flexibility. Need Nginx for a Node.js reverse proxy on one domain and OpenLiteSpeed for WordPress on another? Enhance does this per site, no juggling configs
- You value modern architecture. Kernel-level isolation is more secure than user-based isolation. Each site runs in its own sandbox with dedicated resource limits
- You’re cost-conscious at scale. Enhance has no per-account licensing. If you’re hosting 50+ sites, the licensing savings compared to cPanel add up
- You prefer a cleaner UI. Enhance’s interface is less cluttered. There’s no “icons for 80 features” dashboard
- You’re a developer. Enhance’s REST API is modern and well-documented, making automation cleaner than cPanel’s UAPI
Enhance is available on GoZen’s managed VPS and reseller hosting plans.

The Reseller Angle
If you’re running a reseller hosting business, the choice matters more:
cPanel + WHM:
- Your clients get the familiar cPanel interface
- WHMCS integrates for billing automation
- Huge ecosystem of add-ons and documentation
- License costs scale with account count
Enhance:
- Cleaner client interface (but less familiar to most users)
- No per-account license costs (better margins)
- Per-site isolation is stronger from a security standpoint
- API-first design makes custom integrations easier
Can You Switch?
Switching from cPanel to Enhance (or vice versa) requires migrating your data. It’s not a toggle you flip. The process:
- Provision a new server with the target panel
- Migrate sites, databases, and email
- Verify everything works
- Switch DNS
Contact GoZen support if you want to switch. We handle the migration.
The Bottom Line
- Most users should start with cPanel. It’s the safe choice. Universal support, abundant tutorials, deep plugin ecosystem
- Technical users and growing agencies should evaluate Enhance. The architecture is better, the costs are lower at scale, and the per-site flexibility is a genuine advantage
- Neither is the wrong choice. Both get the job done. Pick based on your workflow, not hype
