This page explains what cookies and similar technologies our Knowledge Base uses, what they do, and how you can control them.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences and understand how you interact with the content. Some cookies are strictly necessary for the site to function; others help us improve your experience.

Cookies We Use

Essential Cookies

These are required for the Knowledge Base to work properly. They cannot be turned off.

Cookie/StoragePurposeDuration
gz_cookie_consentStores your cookie preferences so we don’t ask againPersistent (localStorage)
Theme preferenceRemembers your light/dark mode choicePersistent (localStorage)
FlexSearch cacheMakes site search faster on repeat visitsSession

Essential cookies do not track you or collect personal data.

Analytics Cookies (Optional)

If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use our Knowledge Base. This helps us figure out which articles are helpful, which ones need work, and what topics to write about next.

CookiePurposeDuration
_gaDistinguishes unique visitors2 years
_ga_[ID]Maintains session state2 years

What GA4 collects: page views, scroll depth, time on page, country-level location, device type, and referral source. It does not collect your name, email, IP address (anonymized by default in GA4), or any personally identifiable information.

What we do with it: we look at aggregate reports to improve our documentation. We do not sell, share, or combine this data with any other source.

Marketing Cookies (Optional)

Marketing cookies are used for conversion tracking and remarketing. We currently do not use any marketing cookies on this Knowledge Base. The toggle exists for future-proofing in case we add them later. If we do, this policy will be updated and the consent version will be bumped, prompting you to re-consent.

How to Control Cookies

You have several options:

  1. Use the consent banner – When you first visit, choose “Essentials Only” to block all optional cookies, or click “Customize” to pick exactly what you allow.

  2. Change your preferences anytime – Scroll to the bottom of any page and click “Manage Cookies” in the footer to reopen the consent banner and adjust your settings.

  3. Clear your browser data – You can delete all cookies and localStorage data through your browser settings. This will reset your consent choice and show the banner again on your next visit.

  4. Browser-level controls – Most browsers let you block third-party cookies entirely. See your browser’s privacy settings.

Data Retention

  • Essential storage: persists until you clear your browser data
  • Analytics data: Google retains GA4 data for 14 months by default, after which it is automatically deleted

Changes to This Policy

If we add new types of cookies or change how we use existing ones, we will:

  • Update this page
  • Bump the consent version, which triggers the consent banner to reappear so you can make a new choice
