Transferring a Domain to GoZen Host
Move your domain from another registrar to GoZen Host - step by step.
Transferring a domain to GoZen Host consolidates your hosting and domain management into one place. The process takes 5–7 days, and your website stays live throughout.
Before You Start
Make sure these are true:
- The domain was registered at least 60 days ago (ICANN rule - new domains can’t be transferred)
- The domain is not within 60 days of a previous transfer (same ICANN rule)
- The domain is unlocked at your current registrar
- You have access to the registrant email address on file (you’ll need to approve the transfer)
- You have the domain’s EPP/authorisation code (also called a transfer code or auth code)
Step 1: Get the EPP Code
Log into your current registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.) and:
- Find your domain’s management page
- Disable registrar lock (also called “Transfer Lock” or “Domain Lock”)
- Request the EPP/Auth Code - it’s usually emailed to the registrant address
Every registrar puts these options in a different place, but they all have them. If you can’t find it, contact their support.
Step 2: Start the Transfer
- Log into the GoZen Host client area
- Go to Domains → Transfer Domains to Us
- Enter your domain name
- Paste the EPP code
- Review the transfer fee (includes a 1-year renewal added to your current expiry date)
- Complete payment
Step 3: Approve the Transfer
After you submit, two things happen:
- GoZen Host sends a transfer request to your current registrar
- Your current registrar sends an approval email to the registrant’s email address
Open that email and approve the transfer. If you don’t approve, the transfer will still go through after 5 days (most registrars auto-approve after the waiting period).
Some registrars also send a separate email asking you to confirm you want to release the domain. Approve that too.
Step 4: Wait
The transfer process takes 5–7 days from approval. During this time:
You can track progress in Domains → My Domains in the client area.
After the Transfer
Once complete, the domain appears in your GoZen Host account under Domains → My Domains. From there you can:
- Update nameservers to GoZen Host (if you want to use our DNS)
- Manage DNS records
- Enable WHOIS privacy (free)
- Enable registrar lock (recommended)
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Transfer rejected | Make sure the domain is unlocked and the EPP code is correct |
| Never received approval email | Check spam. Verify the registrant email is one you can access |
| Transfer stuck | Contact GoZen Host support - we can check the status with the registry |
| Domain expired before transfer | Some registrars let you renew and then transfer. Some don’t. Contact your current registrar |
| Just transferred in the last 60 days | ICANN prohibits transfers within 60 days of registration or the last transfer. Wait it out |
What to Do Next
- Pointing Your Domain to Your Server - update DNS to point at your GoZen hosting
- Managing DNS Records - set up A, CNAME, MX, and TXT records
