How to Backup and Restore Your Site

Cloud Backups Strategy

Your data is the most valuable asset of your online presence. Whether it's a plugin update gone wrong, an accidental deletion, or a security incident, having a reliable backup strategy is your ultimate safety net.

At GOZEN HOST, we provide powerful tools to ensure your data is safe. Depending on your hosting plan, you have access to different robust backup solutions:

  1. Backuply (Powered by Softaculous) – The modern, cloud-integrated solution.
  2. JetBackupThe industry standard for quick server-side restores.
  3. cPanel Backup WizardThe reliable, manual fallback.

Which tool should I use?

Both Backuply and JetBackup are connected to our Secure Offsite Cluster. Your choice depends mostly on which interface you prefer or which is available on your specific hosting plan.

Backuply is our next-generation backup solution. We have pre-configured it to automatically store your data on GoZen’s Secure Offsite Cluster.

This ensures that your backups are:
Physically Isolated: Stored on a separate server cluster for maximum safety.
GDPR Compliant: Accessible only by you (the data owner), protecting your customers' privacy.
Ransomware Proof*: Even if your main site is compromised, your offsite backups remain untouched.

How to Restore with Backuply

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Backuply.
  2. Go to the Backups tab.
  3. You will see a list of automated backups stored on our secure cloud.
  4. Click the Restore icon (circular arrow) next to the date you need.
  5. Select Full Restore or choose specific files/databases.
  6. Confirm to begin the process.

Going the Extra Mile

While we handle the heavy lifting with our offsite cluster, Backuply also allows you to add your own 3rd party storage (Google Drive, etc.) if you want a redundant personal copy!

Method 2: JetBackup

If your plan includes JetBackup, you have enterprise-grade access to daily system backups. This is excellent for quickly rolling back your account to a state from yesterday or last week.

Accessing JetBackup

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Look for the JetBackup section.

Restoring Files or Databases

  1. Click on File Backups or Database Backups inside JetBackup.
  2. Select the Date of the backup you need.
  3. Click the Show Files button (for file backups) to browse.
  4. Select the specific files or databases you want to recover.
  5. Click Restore.
    • Note: This will add the restore job to a queue. You can watch the progress in the "Queue" section.

Overwrite Risk

Restoring a database or file will overwrite the current live version. If you are unsure, try to "Download" the backup first to inspect it on your local machine.

Method 3: cPanel Backup Wizard (Manual)

If you prefer the traditional route or if the above tools are unavailable, cPanel's native backup tool is a solid reliable method to manually archive your site.

Download a Backup

  1. Go to cPanelFilesBackup Wizard.
  2. Click Back Up.
  3. Select Full Backup (for moving accounts) or Partial Backup (Home Directory, MySQL Databases).
    • We recommend "Home Directory" for file safekeeping.
  4. Click Generate Backup. Use the Download button once it's complete.

Restore a Backup

  1. Go to Backup Wizard.
  2. Click Restore.
  3. Upload the .tar.gz or .sql file you previously downloaded.
  4. The system will automatically extract and restore the data.
